A week of reading: part 5: Books completed, purchased, and acquired

And to round it all out: Books completed, purchased, & acquired

No week in my life would be complete without some form of shuffling in the shelves. I move books to the office at work when they’re finished and on and off of the book cart at home. I move book around in my TBR lists as my interests change and I add and delete things on Amazon.com and Google Play.

One book that has shuffled off the list is Look Big and other tips for surviving animal encounters of all kinds. I didn’t read it because I often encounter anything to worry about, but because I was curious to see if it was a balanced and accurate work when it comes to the few remaining large predators in the country. It did turn out to be balanced and a pleasant read, though most entries were only a few paragraphs long.

Three books came to join the ranks this week. For reasons unknown, Amazon sent me a Kindle credit, so I spent it on Playing with fire: the 1968 election and the transformation of American Politics to add it to my growing knowledge about RFK.

I had pre-ordered Will haunt you mostly because it was said to center on a guitarist. It hasn’t been a great read so far, but I’m not very far in yet.

Finally, I was having a crummy day and took American Snakes off of my wishlist and purchased it because I’ve been very “into” snakes lately. I’m looking forward to the return of warm weather so that we can go road herping or to Terra Alta and see them. (I confess, I like to flip the rocks and let my husband actually grab them. I’m always afraid I’ll misidentify something and grab a juvenile copperhead. It’s a silly, groundless fear, but there it is). American Snakes joins America’s Snake and Venom on my current list of belly-crawling reads!
