Witchy Women

It certainly isn't the season for them, but I've been reading a great deal about witches lately. The following titles are linked through their leading ladies with their pointed hats:

You can't ask for a better witch than Baba Yaga, and her name was  enough to draw me to this title when it popped up on Scribd. It's an odd read; the writer claims to "channel" the mortar-riding witch (more comfortable than a broomstick?) so the grammar is erratic and the advice needs reading as tea leaves do. I liked it, but I wouldn't re-read it.

Like the title above, this one has something gimmicky to its nature. I applaud it for its mission - making women into their own heroes - and it's style (all the titles come at the end of the poems instead of the beginning) but it starts to all feel the same after awhile.

This book was such a treat that I called a friend who was visiting her granddaughter and insisted she read a copy to her. Pure fun, even if the Witch of the Waste leaves the reader feeling uneasy throughout!

I've saved the best for last. Pratchett's read are always a pleasure and I love the witches second best of all (first place is reserved for Death). This one had me worried about them, too, which is a tribute to Pratchett - that he can be so funny and so moving at the same time!
